ABOUT M&S HIRE

M&S Hire Limited offered specialist access equipment rental to the UK’s Commercial Fit-out trades.

Formed by two partners Malcolm and Simon, in 1984. the business grew into one of the most reputable companies in their field supplying Aluminium Access Towers, and Low Level Access solutions to the construction industry.

In 1996, Stuart having worked in the business for 10 years, could see they needed to expand if they were to be more successful and the only way they could achieve this was through better use of technology. Stuart led the development of not only the network infrastructure by defining and supervising a complete operational database system to manage the very complex process of hiring out components and component assemblies for the Aluminium Access Towers.

In November 2021, M&S Hire Ltd were bought out by VPPLC, broadening their market and enabling them to expand their portfolio of service offering nationwide.

WHAT WE DID FOR THEM

We were first referred to M&S Hire in 1995 by another local company. I immediately struck accord with the management team and together we looked at how we could develop the rudimentary systems available at the time. We soon realized that the technology was not yet mature enough for what they needed so we undertook a 2 year project plan to design and build our own in-house system.

The entire network, from the firewall, network equipment, server and PC's were installed in place to support this system and this was still in use until 2020. Finally the market had caught up and M&S were then able to migrate to a specialised system now mature in the marketplace. However that did not stop M&S, Stuart then began assisting this company to develop their systems even further based on his experience of what was needed.

LD Communications have been working on the biggest festivals, multi-artist events, exhibitions and tours for over three decades. Introducing a standardised IT platform across the company using a hybrid of mostly Apple technology but also some Microsoft and others we ensured a reliable and supportable framework for them to work, wherever they are operating from in the world.

In 2020, when Covid hit the world, LD were already best placed to leave their offices so that everyone could work from home and this was so successful they mostly have stayed operating in this way ever since. Established in 1986, Solarshield are a leading UK supplier and installer of window films and window treatments and are proud to be 3M’s only UK Master Window Film Dealer. They are also approved accredited installers for the world’s largest manufacturers of window film, offering a nation-wide survey, supply and installation service.

Being a family owned and run business they were challenged with managing their IT in-house for many years. Often things were dealt with reactively, finding time it difficult to dedicate the time to proactively manage their systems.

The Total Package were pleased to start working for Solarshield back in January 2023 and since then we have streamlined their infrastructure, installed and configured business grade security and firewall. We have installed a new fileserver and PC's which will allow them to focus on what they do best. Since this period of significant investment by the Company the number of support incidents has dramatically reduced.

Needing a business presence in the UK Jacobs Holding LLP employed The Total Package to setup two new offices in London back in April 2022 and March 2023. We managed, installed and still support both businesses today, including their broadband, firewalls, network equipment and all of their PC's.

In early 2024 we were asked to expand our services to provide backup support to the Group IT Director in their other branches in Europe, which we were delighted to do.
